Medicos back childrens super hospital for brisbane
The family of a 17-year-old Brisbane boy who died suddenly from sepsis after being treated at a Children's Super Hospital says the family has lost everything.
Shane Williams died on May 21 after undergoing sepsis treatment at the Children's Hospital of Queensland (CHUQ).
He was taken to CHUQ on Friday night on a ventilator and suffered cardiac arrest on Wednesday, May 23. He was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital where he died on Wednesday.
"We have lost all hope... We have never seen such devastation before in our lives and it is an absolute nightmare," Shane's family's brother, David Williams, told 9NEWS on Wednesday.
"My husband Shane's dream is to go to a Super Hospital, and his dream is coming true and we are still waiting. It is so tragic... My heart just stops for us."
At an inquest into the boy's death at Princess Margaret Hospital on Wednesday, Dr Stuart Jaksic said the family had "no option left but to find somebody else to help us."

He said that while medical staff would not be able to guarantee how many hours Shane would have in critical care, the family believed he had been given several hours of "titrating" for sepsis — which, he said, was a "very common, relatively routine hospital treatment".
But Dr Jaksic said the boy's parents had lost every ounce of their trust in the hospital and had been unable to secure insurance for the treatment that may have saved their son.
"(When) you get patients of such age, you want to see how they are doing and have faith they can come through the whole process, and there has not been one day that went by this week when the patient showed up.
"That's why I told everyone the hospital would have to take responsibility for their son," he said.
"(The parents) have no alternative and the family has lost everything because they cannot afford to buy insurance or anything.
"We just want answers."

Mr Williams' son has been referred to a pediatric specialist in Queensland who is leading an investigation into his parents' care.

LANSING, Mich. — Four people have been injured in an explosion on a medical cargo plane bound for Michigan's Michigan International Airport, according to emergency medical services and officials with the Michigan Department of Human Services.
The explosion Saturday at the Detroit-Kent International Airport caused chaos and sent firefighters rushing to the scene, with two of the injured on scene on a stretcher, DHH Commissioner Brian Schaffner said.

The explosion damaged the rear fuselage of the plane, leaving the rear side exposed. Firefighters working in the emergency service office were still at the scene early on Monday morning, the DHH said in a statement.
The medical cargo aircraft was on its way to a medical center in Detroit when the explosion occurred. The plane, carrying 15 bodies, touched down at about 4 p.m. Saturday about a minute after take-off, said the DHH.
No passengers or employees were on the plane at the time, said Michael Cawson, an airline spokesman. One passenger, who was not injured in the crash, said she heard a loud explosion and was "wondering why there wasn't a fireball and smoke." She described it as being "a pretty quiet crash," she said.

When the mother and roommate attempted to call 911, Baldwin grabbed the neighbor's cellphone, the complaint said. The neighbor told police Baldwin was holding the two children with one hand while using the other as a knife to slice through the mother and roommate's hands, the complaint said. A woman and her 2-year-old son saw Baldwin attempting to flee the apartment. He allegedly made them run around the apartment, and when the neighbor saw him he ran to a neighbor's house. He grabbed the neighbor's cellphone and fled, according to the complaint.
